Botanical name: Dendrophthoe falcata var. amplexifolia Family: Loranthaceae (Mistletoe family)
Synonyms: Loranthus amplexicaulis, Scurrula amplexifolia Clasping Leaf Mistletoe is a variety of
Honey Suckle Mistletoe which
is more robust than var. falcata. Leaves are larger, stalkless,
round to oblong, 10-18 cm across and heart-shaped-stem-clasping at
base. The flowers are longer, more than 6.5 cm long. The filaments are
hairy. The endosperm bears hairless horns, which do not fork. Clasping
Leaf Mistletoe is found in subtropical evergreen forests of Western
Ghats, above 1200 m altitude, found on a variety of hosts, in
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Sri
Lanka. Flowering: November-April.
